Sharaf
The Premiere Online reading of this Beautiful Tragedy
In a village lost in the country of Ferdos, Braheem yearned for a new life for his family who were a part of a shrinking minority. But reaching a new life has never been free, and now someone will stop at nothing in order to make him reveal the terrible price.
During the Great Covid pandemic, Australian-Egyptian director Mohammed Hashem - based in Cairo - organised the reading of a new play written by Michael Gray Griffith
Mohammed gathered actors and artists from all over the globe… and used Zoom to record it.
But creating Sharaf online was a very challenging task; not only was everyone in a different location, and often country, time zone and even light but there were issues with equipment and wifi network strengths. And yet - inspired by the story - all actors and our brave director persevered. Currently we view this as work in progress. However its purpose is to show our audience the wonderful potential in this piece of art, and maybe it will be physically staged somewhere around the world. We therefore urge you to refrain from sharing the link with others, out of respect for other ticket paying audience members. If you wish to know more about the play, the director or any of the cast please do get in touch.
